Job Title: Voice Intern – Elusive Voice Studio Lab
Location:
Hybrid – Remote + In-person (Ithaca, NY area)
Type: Part-time / Learning Internship
Duration: Fall 2025 (with potential to extend)
Compensation: Paid at a living wage for Tompkins County

About the Role

Elusive Voice Studio Lab is seeking a Voice Intern to support our holistic, somatic-centered voice classes and private singing lessons. This is a learning position ideal for a developing teacher or emerging artist looking to deepen their understanding of voice work within a nervous system-aware, trauma-informed, body-based framework.

The intern will serve as a teaching assistant (TA) for our Studio Lab classes and will also have the opportunity to teach a small number of private lessons with studio students. You'll be guided in applying the material from the Lab in a one-on-one setting while continuing to grow your own voice, teaching style, and presence.

Who You Are

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Open-minded and curious – willing to explore unfamiliar approaches, especially if your training has primarily been in traditional or classical pedagogy.

  • Adaptable and student-centered – responsive to each student’s needs and able to hold space with flexibility and care.

  • Eager to learn – this position is about growth, not perfection. You’ll be learning alongside the students as much as guiding them.

  • Comfortable with vulnerability – much of our work goes beyond technique into territory that asks for personal presence and deep listening.

  • Experienced with youth and/or adult learners – some prior experience teaching or facilitating with a range of ages is ideal.

  • Not required to be a current or former student of Sharon’s – but must be willing to engage with and embody the values of this work.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist during Elusive Voice Studio Lab classes (in-person or virtually)

  • Help facilitate class instruction, flow and hold space for student experience

  • Teach a limited number of private voice lessons independently, utilizing class materials

  • Receive mentorship and feedback on your teaching

  • Engage with studio materials and somatic practices

  • Participate in periodic intern check-ins with Sharon

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands-on experience teaching voice in a holistic, nervous system-informed environment

  • Mentorship and personalized feedback from Sharon

  • A deepened relationship with your own voice and teaching practice

  • A chance to be part of a warm, experimental, values-driven creative space

  • Compensation at a living wage for Tompkins County
